If you run a drama class or have started a new boutique agency (for example) then you’re likely being asked headshot questions from your clients; such as: “Where shall I go to get them done?” or “How much should I pay for decent quality images?”, etc.
As a headshot photographer, working from my studio in my local town centre, I am always working on ‘inclusion’ within my services, specifically for those who are new to the industry, and of course those who are currently trying to adhere to financial and/or budgeting restrictions.
One idea I had, was to work with various groups who in turn work within a multi-client environment, such as drama groups, agent rosters, production teams, and all of those in between.
The plan itself is to not only save actors, corporate staff and industry professionals money on their headshots and portraits, but to work with each group in a way that makes them feel comfortable within the surroundings and support network they are currently trying to strive in – especially when it comes to under-16s. This means that I can either come to you and your premises (with my equipment), or we can arrange a schedule for your team or clients to come to my studio – with the added benefit of it actually being fun, and a laugh along the way.
Group bookings are designed to accommodate groups of 5 or more.
Timescales and prices will vary, however I hope the below information will make this clear for you , however I am always happy to answer any questions you may have.

SETTING UP
SETTING UP AT YOUR SPACE
Ideally I would need a generous space to work in – approx: 4m x 4m – not including any actors/clients moving around the other available space. I shall have some large lights and modifiers, as well as my camera equipment and lenses, which will be set up accordingly within the allocated space.
There isn’t any urgent need for backdrops, as I will take a browse around the space beforehand, however if you do have any available space that will potentially make your clients’ headshots stand out, then please do let me know about this. I will being my own backdrops when/where possible.
SETTING UP AT MY STUDIO
My equipment is generally set up and left alone, making life easier for the next shoot(s) I have booked in, however, there may be times that I have drastically changed things around from a previous shoot, so once your clients turn up to the studio there may be a little extra time to get themselves changed, pepped up, etc (that can only be a bonus, right?)
My studio is approx: 7m x 6m (44 sq.m), and there is a small seating area for some to take the weight off their feet – this does start to cause a small concern with ‘waiting around’ for those who are not having their photos taken, so I would highly recommend using your own sourced space for groups in excess of 5, unless they each turn up at different times of the day – but this can, of course, be discussed and/or finalised beforehand.
THE SHOOT
Depending on the quantity of actors/clients who are in attendance to have their headshots taken, I will have a discussion with everyone to finalise not only equal timeslots for everyone involved, but also a group discussion (where possible) on how the shoot will go, tips and tricks to get them ready, and a general talk on what to expect when they’re sat in front of the lens.
The plan, specifically, with group headshot sessions is to work on a large enough timeslot for each client so that they feel like they have benefit from the session and have a more pleasant final-selection process, therefore I aim to get around 45-60 minutes per client (around 50-80 shots – however this isn’t guaranteed), unless discussed and agreed otherwise.
*POLITE NOTICE*: All actors/clients must be available on the same day (unless a multiple-day shoot is agreed on), allowing for a fluent shoot over the allocated time period.
AFTER THE SHOOT
When everyone has gone home with a great big smile on their face, all they have to do then is await the ‘contact sheet’ that I will send across for each person. My contact sheets are PDF (digital) documents that have 9 headshot thumbnails on each page the client scrolls through – **ONLY THEIR HEADSHOTS WILL BE ON THEIR CONTACT SHEET.
I can either send this to one point of contact for external distribution, or I can send their respective selections to each client individually, using their respective email addresses.
Once the actors have chosen their favourite headshots that they want for a final retouch, I will aim to have these finished and sent across within 2-7 working days, depending how many actors were involved, and also how many headshots they have chosen.
There is no maximum amount of headshots that they can have, whether that be one headshot or 25 headshots (wishful thinking, I know), however, unfortunately there is a minimum. Each actor must* have at least one headshot retouched, but should an actor decide they no longer require any edits, *this can be offset for those who require more than one – {e.g. if 6 actors take part in the group booking, and 2 people decide they no longer want any final edits, but at least two people want more than one retouched headshot, then this will suffice and cover the 6 minimum headshots}
BOOKING
Simply just send me an email to hello@dalehooleyphoto.co.uk, or use my contact form, and I will be more than happy to discuss this further with you.
PAYMENT, DEPOSIT & EXPENSES
The initial deposit/payment will be a minimum of 50% per first headshot, per person.
{e.g. If there are 8 adults booked in for the day, at my studio, this would equate to £20.00 per person (for one retouched headshot, each), therefore this would be a £80.00 (£10.00 per person) deposit}
After all chosen headshots have been finalised, retouched and sent across to you (or a chosen direct point of contact – including each client individually, if required), the remaining balance (which will depend on how many headshots each client requires from their selection) will then be invoiced for, and the remaining payment will be required in full before any edits are undertaken.
Travel expenses for locations within an 8 mile radius are covered within your costs. For locations further afield, I am happy to discuss this.
